Overview
UK Export Finance guarantees loans to UK businesses. Reporting between the banks and UKEF was manual: every month, banks emailed spreadsheets in different formats, which meant delays, wrong reconciliations and a lot of admin.
As part of the End to End Trade Finance transformation I designed two connected pieces:
- A secure reporting portal for delegated banks, which checks uploaded data and stops bad spreadsheets getting into the workflow.
- A reconciliation area in UKEF's internal Trade Finance Manager system, where finance officers match reported fees against payments received and spot any shortfall.
Together they made the data more accurate, cut the manual processing and made the workflow clearer for the banks and for UKEF staff.
Role and responsibilities
I worked across Alpha and early Beta in a multidisciplinary team, designing for two groups of users: bank staff submitting financial data, and the UKEF finance officers processing it.
I designed the reporting and reconciliation journeys end to end and built fully interactive prototypes in the GOV.UK Prototype Kit for user research and stakeholder walkthroughs. The prototypes let the team test assumptions, work through the financial logic and demonstrate the service at the Alpha Service Assessment.

Outcomes
- Designed the reporting portal that validates financial data on upload, improving accuracy and reducing bad data
- Created the internal reconciliation interface that helps UKEF staff quickly match reported fees to payments
- Built fully interactive prototypes that accelerated research, supported the Alpha Service Assessment, and provided reusable patterns for developers
